Dear Northampton,
I am running for the At Large City Council seat with the mission to continue serving this community by supporting a vibrant downtown as the artistic and cultural center of the Pioneer Valley, advocating for the Northampton Public Schools and our students and teachers, and working closely with community stakeholders to ensure an equitable and just community for all residents of this ward and our city.
Family is fundamentally important to me and I am proud to be the father of two amazing young girls. I’ve been overjoyed to watch them grow and learn thanks to this community and the local school system that has helped to nourish and strengthen my children.
I have always approached music and art as tools for propelling social change in our communities. As an artist, I have prioritized giving back to our local community, by working closely with local youth groups and volunteering my talents to support important local causes.
Music has been an important part of my life and so has the service industry. During my 20+ years in Northampton I have worked at a number of establishments including Sylvester’s, Union Station, Cooks Shop Here, and Bishop’s Lounge. I know how important our restaurant and retail and entertainment industries are and I have been working to help revitalize our downtown through groups like the Vibrancy Project.
Northampton is the city that has helped me grow into the man I am. It is the place that I am proud to raise my kids and I look forward to advocating for its citizens and continuing to contribute to an area that has given me so much.
Please reach out to me through this process. I welcome your thoughts, ideas, and feedback, and I ask for your vote on November 7th, 2023 to be your next Councilor At Large.
Thank you,
Garrick
